We are surrounded by air, but can’t see it or the oxygen it contains, which is vital for keeping us all alive. We only know oxygen is there because Joseph Priestley discovered it almost 250 years ago.
FX7 Solutions sees business opportunities as oxygen: there are opportunities all around us, and we need them to survive and thrive, but we can’t always see them. Sometimes we need a Joseph Priestley to discover opportunities and share them with us.
Priestley was an interesting person: a Christian minister, philosopher, grammarian, chemist and scientist. His book on the ‘History and Present State of Electricity’ became the standard textbook on electricity for over a century, and his views were literally revolutionary as he supported both the American and French revolutions.
He was also a dedicated, original scientist and he discovered oxygen during research into the air around him. This included inventing a process to dissolve carbon dioxide in water, which businessmen such as Mr Schweppe saw as a business opportunity to develop the now massive worldwide carbonated drinks industry.
Priestley discovered oxygen using a 12-inch ‘burning lens’ to heat mercuric oxide to create a gas that he thought had an “exalted nature”, observing that a mouse placed in it lived longer than breathing common air. Priestley’s work was of massive importance, also including the discovery of photosynthesis, and it has continued to fuel scientific research that continues today.
We can’t all be a Joseph Priestley and make big discoveries, but we can often spot opportunities that could be useful to other businesses – the oxygen that keeps the economy alive and breathing. While FX7 Solutions focuses on providing you with the best IT systems, we also like to support your business in any way we can. We aim to build partnerships with all our customers wherever they are on their journey, from start-up to corporation. In this way we can tap into the stream of opportunities around us all to constantly breathe life into our businesses.
